bonprix launches its first sustainable collection
press release
•02.04.2019
The international fashion company will present its own sustainable collection from 18 April 2019, thereby further expanding its activities in the area of corporate responsibility (CR).
Under the name ‘Sustainable Collection’, bonprix is presenting its own women's fashion collection for the first time this spring, consisting of 20 curated styles that will be available in a total of 23 countries. The garments are made from organic cotton, cotton from the Cotton made in Africa initiative, recycled cotton, recycled polyester and TENCEL™ Lyocell. Polybags made from 100 per cent recycled plastic are used for product packaging.
In addition to using sustainable materials, environmentally friendly processes were also used in the production of the Sustainable Collection. For example, there are special natural dye shirts that have been dyed with natural substances such as lemon peel, rose petals and lavender. No chemicals are used during the dyeing process. Fifteen per cent less water is used to dye the denim material produced for the collection. In keeping with the spring/summer season, the collection features muted yet fresh colours. In addition to lightweight blouses and T-shirts, bonprix's Sustainable Collection offers airy dresses and trousers as well as cosy cardigans that can be easily combined with each other.
The first sustainable collection complements the company's commitment in the product area, one and a half years after the presentation of the bonprix CR strategy. Already today, almost every second textile meets the criteria for a sustainable product. bonprix is the largest partner of the Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) initiative and aims to increase the amount of sustainably produced cotton to 100 per cent by 2020.
‘I am very proud that, after intensive work, we are now bringing the issue of sustainability even more strongly into the focus of our customers,’ says Rien Jansen, Managing Director of Purchasing, Marketing and Retail, who is responsible for the CR strategy and its implementation at bonprix. ‘With our Sustainable Collection, we are bringing great fashion to the market that not only looks good, but also scores points for its sustainable materials and innovative manufacturing.’ The collection will not only be presented online in 23 countries, but also in bonprix's new fashion connect store in Hamburg city centre. This is where innovative fashion meets innovative retail.
Following its premiere on 18 April, the Sustainable Collection will be released twice a year. The launch of the second collection is planned for 29 August 2019.
